Getting kicks in bye week
The Giants on Wednesday worked out punter/kicker Austin Rehkow, a former University of Idaho standout and Buffalo Bill, according to a source.
Jerry Reese said on Tuesday that “the kicking game has to be better,” and so the Giants clearly are doing their due diligence with incumbent punter Brad Wing and kicker Aldrick Rosas both having a below-average first half of the 2017 season.
Rehkow, 22, a rookie, had signed with the Bills as an undrafted free agent in the spring and competed for Buffalo’s punting job but lost to incumbent Colton Schmidt and was cut on Aug. 20.
Rehkow was both a punter and kicker at Idaho and a Lou Groza and Ray Guy award semifinalist in his final season of 2016, setting Sun Belt Conference singleseason records for most points by a kicker (120) and made field goals. He made 26 of 29 field goals with a long of 50 yards as a senior, 42 of 44 extra points, handled kickoff duties, and averaged 41.6 yards on 56 punts.
