Smear excuse – Just politics

- Stephen Rex Brown wn

WHEN PRESIDENT Trump called one of the women accusing him of sexual harassment a liar, he was merely expressing a political opinion, his lawyers argue in court papers.

Former “The Apprentice” contestant Summer Zervos sued Trump in January for defamation, saying he’d smeared her while rejecting her allegations ns that he’d forced himself on her in 2007. In new filings in Manhattan Supreme Court, Trump’s lawyer Marc Kasowitz says Trump’s statements about Zervos are protected by the First Amendment because they were delivered in a political context.

“Ms. Zervos cannot hold the President liable for engaging in political speech in the context of a public debate because such speech is clearly protected by the First Amendment,” Kasowitz writes, asking a judge to toss the “politically motivated” case.
