N.Y. pol rebels vs. plan

- Glenn Blain

ALBANY — The Republican leader of the New York State Senate broke with national GOP leaders Thursday over plans to eliminate the federal deduction for state and local taxes.

Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan (R-Suffolk County) said removal of the deduction would be a “bad deal for New York” and he urged President Trump and Congress to abandon the idea.

“New York taxpayers need and deserve real relief, not another tax obligation,” Flanagan said. “I strongly urge the President and Congress to enact real tax cuts and to protect the hardworking people who live here.”
