Giants put Weston on IR, promote S

- BY PAT LEONARD

The Giants placed top center Weston Richburg on injured reserve on Saturday and promoted corner Tim Scott off their practice squad to bolster their shorthanded secondary for Sunday’s home game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Richburg was due to miss his fourth straight game Sunday coming out of the bye due to symptoms of a concussion he sustained on Oct. 1.

Richburg, the Giants’ 2014 secondround pick out of Colorado State, is due to hit unrestricted free agency at season’s end. He had appeared in 51 of a possible 52 games when he started Week 4 in Tampa Bay, including 50 starts, prior to that day’s injury.

Richburg played left guard as a rookie and has been the Giants’ starting center since. Brett Jones has taken over in Richburg’s absence and his backup is Jon Halapio.

Scott, an undrafted player out of North Carolina who entered the league with the Dallas Cowboys in 2015, is expected to make his NFL regular season debut Sunday.

He was promoted because top corner Janoris Jenkins is suspended for skipping Monday’s practice, not checking in with Ben McAdoo until Tuesday morning and handling that check-in badly, as well, based on comments made by his teammates.

Slot corner Donte Deayon also is questionable with an ankle injury suffered in Thursday’s practice. So the Giants’ four corners on Sunday could be Ari Apple and Ross Cockrell starting on the outside, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in the slot and Scott as next man up.
