Big stars set for Millrose Games
TNYRR Millrose Games at the New Balance Track & Field Center at the Armory in Manhattan on Feb. 3 is going to be a star-studded, fleetfooted affair, with athletes from the Caribbean, the U.S. and other nations vying for top honors.
Trinidad and Tobago Olympian Lalonde Gordon is an example of the high-caliber performers. Gordon anchored his nation’s 4x400-meter team that won the gold medal in the event at the 2017 World Championships and will compete in the 400-meter run in Millrose Games.
Omar McLeod of Jamaica, the 2016 Olympic and 2017 World Championships gold medalist in the 110-meter hurdles; 2016 Olympic women’s 400-meter run winner Shaunae Miller-Uibo of the Bahamas; and Canadian distance runner and NCAA men’s cross country star Justyn Knight, whose mother was born in Jamaica, are among the elite athletes competing.

‘Demerara Gold’ rush

‘Bickle’ holiday benefit
Team Jamaica Bickle the track and field initiative for Jamaican athletes competing in the annual Penn Relays in Philadelphia — will hold its “Holiday Event and Benefit” on Thursday in Queens at the Royal Chateau Hall, 147-11 Francis Lewis Blvd., from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
There will be networking, appetizers, entertainment and prizes at the affair.

U.S. Virgin Islands Tourism Commissioner Beverly Nicholson-Doty, on a recent visit to New York, updated the travel industry officials and the media on hurricane recovery — which includes tourism sector businesses and accommodations open for business. “The best way to help the Virgin Islands, as we rebuild, is to help the economy and tourism being 30% of GDP it’s extremely important for us to have people to continue to visit the territory,” said Nicholson-Doty, chronicling the progress territory has made in the wake of back-to-back Category 5 Hurricanes Irma and Maria in this fall.
