MYERS’ TOP CANDIDATES FOR GM

- Dave Gettleman, former Panthers GM John Dorsey, former Chiefs GM Eliot Wolf, Packers director of football operations Will McClay, Cowboys assistant personnel director Eric DeCosta, Ravens assistant GM

He put together the Panthers’ NFC championship team in 2015. He worked in pro personnel for the Giants from 1998-2012. He gives them a chance to bring back a piece of their past, but also has experience running another organization. He and Ernie Accorsi are best friends and Gettleman was very highly thought of when he worked for the Giants, although Accorsi recommended Jerry Reese replace him over Gettleman when he retired in 2007. Clashed with some Panthers veterans who he did not want back. He was Andy Reid’s handpicked GM when he went from Philly to KC in 2013. He and Accorsi also have a long-time friendship. Dorsey was fired by the Chiefs over the summer at a time he thought he would be getting a contract extension. He worked for Mike Holmgren in Green Bay and Seattle. The Chiefs were 43-21 with Dorsey as the GM but he reportedly was let go because of his communication and management style. But he knows how to pick players. He’s just 35 and the Giants are looking for someone who does not have to grow into the job. Wolf is the son of Hall of Famer Ron Wolf and is considered a rising star in the business. A former Giant suggested they bring in Bill Parcells, who is close to Ron Wolf, as a mentor. Jerry Jones is the GM and he’s the one who will get the credit for picking Zeke Elliott in the first round and Dak Prescott in the fourth round in 2016. McClay is very highly regarded in the Cowboys organization and the Giants could help themselves and hurt the Cowboys by hiring him. He would also get the GM title which will never happen in Dallas. It’s going to take a great situation to get him out of Baltimore. DeCosta is considered the successor when Ozzie Newsome retires. He’s been with the Ravens since the franchise moved to Baltimore in 1996. He’s turned down several opportunities to interview with other teams in the last nine years, including the Jets.
