Hall topples VCU; BC shocks Duke

Angel Delgado had 14 points and 13 rebounds, and No. 19 Seton Hall continued its impressive start to the season with a 90-67 victory over Virginia Commonweal­th in the Never Forget Tribute Classic at the Prudential Center on Saturday.

Myles Powell added five of his 17 points in a game-breaking 13-1 first-half run, Desi Rodriguez had 17 and Khadeen Carrington scored 13 for the Pirates (8-1), who have won four straight since being beaten at the buzzer by Rhode Island on Thanksgivi­ng. Michael Nzei added 14 points, 10 of them in garbage time in the second half. The Pirates’ run includes wins over current Texas Tech and Louisville, which was nationally ranked at the time. Justin Tillman had 14 of his 20 points in the second half to lead VCU (5-5), which suffered its biggest loss of the season. Marcus Santos-Silva added 10 points for the Rams in their first meeting with the Pirates.

Seton Hall took control of the game shortly after Santos-Silva scored to cut the Pirates’ lead to 16-12 with 12:20 left in the half.

BC 89, DUKE 84: Ky Bowman finished with 30 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists to help host Boston College send top-ranked Duke to its first loss of the season. Jordan Chatman scored 22 for BC (7-3), hitting four straight free throws in the final 16 seconds. The Eagles have won their last three games against the No. 1 team in The Associated Press Top 25. Gary Trent Jr. scored 25 for Duke (11-1).

KENTUCKY 93, MONMOUTH 76: Hamidou Diallo scored a season-high 23 points for Kentucky at the Garden. Kentucky (8-1) won its sixth in a row. Monmouth (3-7) has lost three straight.

FORDHAM 76, ST. FRANCIS 68: Will Tavares had 21 points, Joseph Chartouny added 19 and Prokop Slanina dropped in 18 as Fordham held off St. Francis (Brooklyn) for a 76-68 win on Saturday afternoon.

IONA 74, NJIT 70: Rickey McGill added 17, including the goahead bucket with under a minute to play for visiting Iona.

HOFSTRA 88, RIDER 82: Justin Wright-Foreman scored a season-high 30 points and Elijah Pemberton scored a career-best 28 points and visiting Hofstra won its third straight win. —AP
