Andy Pettitte is a starting pitchuh!

-

You cannot have a list of memorable moments without this one.

Amid the Joba Rules debate in 2009 when the Yankees attempted to transition flame-throwing reliever Joba Chamberlain into a starter, Francesa pushed back against the idea. It was a hot button issue on the radio airwaves and when Alex from Bedminster called in one May afternoon, it reached a boiling point.

The two went back-and-forth for a bit with Alex pleading his case for Chamberlain as a starter. In doing so, he began to make some sort of point about how even Andy Pettitte could pitch the eighth inning, and it set Francesa off.

“Andy Pettitte is a starting pitcher! Andy Pettitte is a starting pitcher who has won 200 games! What are you talking about? Andy Pettitte can’t pitch the eighth inning! Get rid of him.”

Francesa gave him the classic hand wave and the rest of us one of the most classic sound bites ever in sports radio.
