bade farewell to the troops with a Champagne toast (below) Tuesday. “I loved being a reporter – I just loved it!” the editor-in-chief and publisher told an emotional newsroom that saw him off after over 40 years of service. Browne had planned to retire before the tronc organizati­on announced it would take over New York’s Hometown Newspaper. “I do believe you’re now positioned for a resurgence,” he said. Browne then gave the order every reporter loves to hear: “Now we’re all going to the bar!”
