Sam sez he won’t be picky

- BY KEVIN ARMSTRONG

USC quarterback Sam Darnold isn’t sending any signals that he is too good for Cleveland.

Days after UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen leaked word that he would be hesitant to declare for the NFL draft this year if the Browns were likely to take him with the No. 1 pick, Darnold went a more diplomatic route.

“Whenever I come out to go to the NFL, I think I’d be honored to play for any team,” Darnold said, according to ESPN. “It’s been a dream of mine for such a long time to play in the NFL. Any team that would want to give me that opportunity to be a part of their organization, it would mean the world to me.”

The Giants (2-13) are likely to hold the No. 2 pick in the draft and will be in the market for Eli Manning’s replacement.

Neither quarterback has to enter the draft. Both have NCAA eligibility remaining. Darnold is finishing his redshirt sophomore year at USC by playing in the Cotton Bowl this week and Rosen completed his junior campaign. Rosen was held out of the Cactus Bowl as his Bruins fell to Kansas State, 35-17.

“I think the teams know more than I do in the sense of where I’d best fit,” Rosen said, according to ESPN. “I might be a bit of a unique personality, so hopefully they can pick me a part and if a team really feels that I’m their guy, hopefully they’ll go and get me. I’d rather be a lower pick at the right team than a higher at the wrong team.”
