Temps drop like the ball
SHOULD COLD acquaintance be forgot?
New Year’s Eve revelers may want to swap a cup of kindness for for a cup of hot soup when they crowd into Times Square Sunday for the annual ball drop celebration.
Forecasters are predicting a frigid New Year’s Eve with temperatures hovering around 12 degrees.
If the predictions hold out, the temperature would be a full 12 degrees below normal, and one of the coldest New Year’s Eves on record.
In 1962, the New Year’s Eve temperature in Times Square plunged to 2 degrees, but that piece of history is unlikely to make present-day revelers feel any warmer.
Also joining the party will be winds of up to 20 mph, and possibly even some light snow.
New Yorkers might be used to the bone-chilling by then.
Temperatures in New York City are expected to stay below the freezing mark for the rest of the year.
The National Weather Service says the average forecast temperature for the next seven days for Central Park will be 19 degrees.
