The error of our ways
An editorial published on Dec. 26 incorrectly implied that Freedom Cruises had violated a judge’s order in the course of running tour boats near the Statue of Liberty. In a battle between Freedom Cruises and the city over Freedom Cruises’ ability to use a city-owned berthing pier, a judge had granted Freedom Cruises temporary permission to resume operating boats from the city’s pier without selling new tickets for harbor tours.
The editorial incorrectly implied that Freedom Cruises may have resumed selling tickets for its tours. While unidentified hawkers did indeed reappear after ceasing their activities for a few days, the Daily News possesses no evidence that any of them sold rides for Freedom Cruises in particular at a time when such sales were barred.
The News regrets any implication that Freedom Cruises had failed to comply with the judge’s order.
