Embattled ex-Jet Mo to Packers

- BY DANIEL POPPER AND MANISH MEHTA

The Titans signed Butler’s former teammate, cornerback Logan Ryan, last season and needed help in the secondary to go along with cornerback Adoree Jackson, who started 16 games after being drafted 18th overall. Ryan wrote on Twitter earlier Tuesday that he was trying to recruit Butler to Tennessee. MUHAMMAD Wilkerson has found a new home.

The former Jets defensive lineman agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Packers on Tuesday night, according to a source. The contract is for $5 million, with an additional $3 million available through incentives, according to NFL Network.

Wilkerson teams back up with Mike Pettine in Green Bay. The Packers hired Pettine to be their defensive coordinator this offseason. Pettine previously served as the Jets’ defensive coordinator from 2009-2012. Gang Green drafted Wilkerson in the first round in 2011.

Wilkerson, 28, was a force with the Jets in his first five NFL seasons, twice eclipsing 10 sacks, including 12.5 in 2015, when he made his first Pro Bowl and was named second-team AllPro. That offseason, after breaking his leg in the 2015 season finale, Wilkerson signed a massive five-year, $86 million contract to stay with Gang Green. And his career in New York unraveled from there.

The Elizabeth, New Jersey native grossly underperformed in 2016 and 2017 while repeatedly showing up late to team meetings. The serial tardiness came to a head at the end of last season, when Todd Bowles ruled Wilkerson a healthy scratch for the Jets’ final three games. At that point, the divorce became an inevitability. The Jets cut Wilkerson on the last day of February, saving $11 million in cap space. They are still incurring a $9 million dead money charge.

BRADFORD MAKES BANK

The Arizona Cardinals finally found their quarterback. Sam Bradford and the Cardinals have agreed to a one-year, $20 million contract with a second-year option, also for $20 million. Bradford, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 draft, is known for his strong and accurate arm but he has struggled with injuries. He joins a team in dire need of a quarterback. Just as word of the Bradford deal surfaced, the Cardinals released running back Adrian Peterson.

BEARS SHAKE THINGS UP

The Bears are set to sign Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Allen Robinson and Philadelphia Eagles tight end Trey Burton, giving quarterback Mitchell Trubisky some playmaking targets.

PACK HACKS JORDY

Aaron Rodgers is losing his most prolific receiver but might be getting an upgrade at tight end. The Green Bay Packers released veteran Jordy Nelson, the third-leading receiver in franchise history and one of Rodgers’ top targets in the passing game.

PATS’ DANNY TO DOLPHINS

The Dolphins are ready to add two receivers after trading Jarvis Landry, and the likely newcomers include former Patriots receiver Danny Amendola and ex-Kansas City Chiefs wideout Albert Wilson, who are discussing contract offers and are likely to sign with the Dolphins when the NFL’s new year begins. —with AP
