The miseducation of de Blasio

-

It is a fact, first reported in these pages 10 days ago, that a longtime San Francisco education official sued that district for discrimination in 2016. It is a fact that former San Fran schools boss Richard Carranza, Mayor de Blasio’s new choice to be New York City’s chancellor, is named in that lawsuit for “engaging in inappropriate flirtatious conduct with a female colleague” from another district in 2013, and for allegedly retaliating against the woman who called him on it.

And it is a fact that de Blasio has a violent allergy to accepting these facts.

Friday, he told WNYC’s Brian Lehrer that Carranza wasn’t the “subject” of the suit in question, and chided Lehrer for “looking at Daily News stories and repeating them without independently verifying the facts.”

Speaking of which, while de Blasio waves away the allegations with arrogance, City Hall officials never bothered to contact the complainant or her attorney.

“The Daily News has an ax to grind here, let’s be very clear about that.”

The Daily News accurately reported allegations about claims of harassment and retaliation that resulted in a $75,000 settlement. It’s de Blasio who grinds an ax, an ax that remains dull despite his best efforts. Let’s be very clear about that.
