Rondae helps Nets top Mavs

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson scored 23 points, D’Angelo Russell had 22 and the Brooklyn Nets recovered after blowing a double-digit lead to beat the Dallas Mavericks 114-106 on Saturday night at Barclays Center.

DeMarre Carroll had 19 points and 12 rebounds, and Caris LeVert and Joe Harris each chipped in 11 points for the Nets, who snapped a three-game skid.

Dallas rookie Dennis Smith Jr. scored 21 points but left with 3:30 remaining in the third quarter after spraining his left ankle. Dwight Powell had 18 points and reserve Yogi Ferrell had 12 points and 12 assists for the Mavericks, who dressed only 10 players.

WOODHEAD RETIRES

Danny Woodhead went from undersized and undrafted to big-time playmaker in 10 NFL seasons.

The versatile running back announced his retirement from playing in a humble and heartfelt post on Instagram early Saturday.

The 5-foot-8, 204-pound Woodhead had 2,238 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns, along with 300 catches for 2,698 yards and 17 scores while playing for the New York Jets, New England, San Diego and Baltimore. He added an exciting element to the offenses in which he played.

FEDERER TO 17-0

Roger Federer rallied to beat Borna Coric 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 in the BNP Paribas Open on Saturday, extending his career-best start to 17-0 and putting him in the final with a chance to win his record sixth title. Federer overcame a slow start in front of a partisan crowd that included Rod Laver and Pete Sampras. He rallied from a 5-7, 2-4 deficit to win the final four games of the second set, breaking Coric twice for the first time in the match.

9 OLYMPIANS IN NYC HALF

Nine Olympians and 10 paralympia­ns headline a field of more than 22,000 runners participat­ing on Sunday in the 2018 NYC Half Marathon.

The redesigned 13.1 mile race, which will be broadcast locally live on WABCTV, begins in Prospect Park in Brooklyn and finishes at Central Park.

Olympic and World Championsh­ips gold medalist Vivian Cheruiyot, 2017 runner-up Emily Sisson, 2016 champion Stephen Sambu will compete in the open division, with five-time New York City Marathon champion Tatyana McFadden and three-time defending champion Ernst van Dyk in the wheelchair division. — Peter Botte

RAMIREZ WINS AT GARDEN

Jose Ramirez won his first world title Saturday night with a unanimous decision victory over Amir Imam at Madison Square Garden to win the WBC’s vacant 140-pound belt.

Ramirez pulled away in the late rounds, swelling Imam’s right eye in the process.
