AG perjury probe OK’d by McCabe
THE FBI investigated Attorney General Jeff Sessions for perjury after he made conflicting statements to Congress about his Russian contacts, a report Wednesday said.
Sessions submitted testimony last spring saying he had no contact with Russians while he was a campaign adviser to Donald Trump. He backpedaled after it was revealed he met with a Russian ambassador and was present when ex-Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos proposed brokering a meeting between Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Ex-FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe authorized a perjury investigation into the discrepancies, ABC News first reported Wednesday. Speculation immediately swirled about whether Sessions was aware of that when he fired McCabe last week two days before he was eligible for his full pension.
