Correction officer arrested in slay
COPS HAVE arrested a city correction officer over the fatal shooting of a woman inside his Bronx apartment, officials said Thursday.
Alain Samba, 42, was taken into custody after a woman was shot in the left side of her chest in his sixth-floor apartment on Ogden Ave. near University Ave. in Highbridge just before 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, cops said.
Medics took the 35-year-old victim to Bronx Lebanon Hospital, where she died. Her name was not immediately released.
Cops charged Samba with criminally negligent homicide. His arraignment was pending.
It was not immediately disclosed how the woman was shot.
Sources said Samba has been a correction officer for just over a year and is assigned to Rikers Island.
“He works a lot,” said one neighbor who declined to give her name. “I don’t see him much because he’s always working."
She said the officer has two children, a girl and a boy between 10 and 12 years old.
Both children live with their biological mother but used to visit their father fairly regularly.
“He’s a good father from what I’ve seen,” she said. “The children stay with him but I haven’t seen them in there in the longest time.”
