Ex-Jet, Giant QB Geno talks with Bolts
ORLANDO — Geno Smith was expected to visit the Los Angeles Chargers on Wednesday, according to a source.
The former Jets second-round pick rehabilitated his knee and perhaps his image in one season as a Giant in 2017, recovering from an October 2016 torn ACL to back up Eli Manning last fall.
Smith impressed Giant coaches enough to earn a Week 13 start over Manning in Oakland and played well, completing 21of-34 passes for 212 yards and a touchdown with two fumbles, engineering touchdown drives of 74 yards in 11 plays and 88 yards in nine plays.
Now he gets to audition for Chargers coach Anthony Lynn, whose starter remains Philip Rivers. NFL Network first reported Smith’s visit. Smith has thrown for 6,174 career yards, 29 TDs and 36 interceptions, completing 57.9 percent of his passes (522-of-902).
He also has 659 rushing yards, seven rushing TDs and nine fumbles lost in 35 career appearances, including 31 starts, 29 in his first two seasons as a Jet.
