2 held in B’klyn bid-rig racket
TWO MEN — including an alleged mobster — were charged with a bid rigging scheme to fix construction prices at a luxe Brooklyn development, state Attorney General Eric Scheiderman said Thursday.
Christopher Chierchio and Anthony Molohnic were arrested and charged with colluding to avoid competition on bids for plumbing, sprinkler, heating and air conditioning bids at the new luxury condo building on Baltic St.
Chierchio — a reputed Genovese soldier — was also charged with evading $94,094 in personal income taxes since April 2016, and could face up to 19 years in prison, according to the attorney general’s office. NEW YORK City will launch a smartphone app to help New Yorkers stay safe while they’re browsing the web, Mayor de Blasio announced Thursday.
The app, NYC Secure, will launch this summer and will alert users to suspicious activities online and warn them about attempts to compromise their device. They’ll also get recommendations on how to stay safe — like suggestions to log off risky Wi-Fi networks, leave compromised websites and uninstall malicious apps.
De Blasio and city officials also said the app will not collect or access any personally identifying information or transmit private data.
