B’klyn baby brain dead in shaking
AN EX-CON shook his 6-month-old son so violently that the boy was declared brain dead, then tried to blame the baby’s mom, police sources said Thursday.
Police found Gianni Gilmore motionless inside his home on Gates Ave. near Marcy Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesant Tuesday afternoon.
His father, Shatwaun Gilmore, 24, called 911 at 5:50 p.m — but only after Gianni’s maternal grandmother, Jacqueline Saintangle, checked on the boy.
“When I opened the door, Shatwaun called me, he said, ‘Mam, mam, help me.’ I see my (grandson), he’s not responsive, nothing,” Saintangle, 59, told the Daily News. She rushed home because a neighbor heard Gianni’s crying.
The baby was declared brain dead at NYU Langone Medical Center/Tisch Hospital, cops said.
Gilmore initially tried to pin the crime on the infant’s 22-yearold mother, but she wasn’t home when cops arrived and investigators cleared her as a suspect, police sources said.
On Thursday, authorities charged Gilmore with assault and child endangerment.
Gilmore is on parole for a 2013 attempted robbery conviction.
