Yes, the raid on Cohen was legit
Staten Island: Voicer Michael Devine claims the American Civil Liberties Union is “a partisan hard-left political organization” because it did not condemn the raid on Michael Cohen’s office. The raid was by the U.S. attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York, and not directly by Robert Mueller’s special counsel’s office. Mueller’s team referred the case to the U.S. attorney, but the U.S. attorney sought the search warrant and received it only after establishing probable cause. Probable cause is a sufficient reason based upon facts to believe a crime has been committed or that certain property is connected with a crime. I am sure Devine is getting his information from “fair and balanced” Fox News.
As pointed out in S.E. Cupp’s April 18 column about Sean Hannity in particular, “feelings trump facts,” which Fox viewers find acceptable. And the facts are, in this instance, Mr. Devine: the raid was legal and in the interests of justice. Michele Corelli
Remembering a special lady
Flushing: I worked for Eastern Air Lines at LaGuardia Airport during the 1980s. Barbara Bush would often travel from LaGuardia Airport to Washington using Eastern’s Air Shuttle service. She would usually arrive for the 8 a.m. flight carrying a briefcase in her right hand with a garment bag slung over her left shoulder. I was assigned to help her with the boarding process, yet she never once accepted any assistance, always saying, “No fuss, please.” On one occasion she returned to LaGuardia at 6 p.m. When I met her at the gate, she said, “You work too many hours.” I was amazed at how friendly and down to earth Mrs. Bush was. God rest her soul. Carol Amato
Editorial oversight
Brooklyn: I found it rude and extremely insulting that on the front page of Wednesday’s Daily News, former First Lady Barbara Bush was referred to as “ex-First Lady.” This was not only unpatriotic and offensive, but a stretch from the protocol that I’m sure exists when referring to our past First Families. An apology is in order. To whom, I don’t know. Maybe America! Debra Tuohy Loganville, Ga.: Why is this worthless piece of inhumanity getting even one iota of press coverage (“University professor slams Barbara Bush as ‘amazing racist’ after her death,” April 18)? She is obviously looking for her 15 minutes of fame and she doesn’t deserve one second. Jane Rafferty Brooklyn: I’m very frustrated because I first was convicted of a crime I didn’t do at 15 years old — over 23 years ago(I’m 39 now). I’ve never been arrested again in my life since 1995. I’ve been working consistently (I’m the shipping manager at my job); I have two beautiful children and a wife. Yet, I’m still getting turned down to live in a gated community, good communities, and/or being subject to background checks where I get turned down because of something (a bad decision) I made at 15 years old. I’m no longer that person and I’m just trying to raise my kids better than how I grew up. I have the money to pay three months’ rent or put a down payment on the house, and I’m still turned down. My kids have nothing to do with my past decisions. I’m just trying to find a good place to live and raise my children. Is that too much to ask? Michael Lemonier
Killer vote
Kew Gardens: I would like to offer some words of encouragement to convicted child-killer Yoselyn Ortega: Thanks to Gov. Cuomo, you will get to vote when you are paroled. And you will get paroled because Cuomo will continue to appoint morons to the Parole Board. Barry J. Koppel
Gunning for the door
Passaic Park, N.J.: Since Gov. Cuomo’s administration is advocating that all banks and insurance companies in New York discontinue their arrangements with the gun industry, then the industry should respond in kind by discontinuing to sell or supply their product (firearms and ammunition) to all of New York’s law enforcement entities and the National Guard. Steve Mikola
Retail relief
Cambridge, Mass.: I totally agree with Susan Shapiro (“Change the math on retail vacancies,” Op-Ed, April 16). We have a similar problem here in Boston. And the cities need the income to repair their infrastructure. Tax them and stop their deductions. Please don’t stop with just this article.

No place for Marion Sims
Bronx: Voicer Nancy Brenner, please get your facts straight. Anesthesia was in use as of 1842. Ether was in use as of 1846. Just because Dr. Marion Sims did not think it was fully accepted does not mean it was not, as you say, “introduced”; it was. Also, when Sims treated white women he used anesthesia on these women. So racism in medicine was alive and well even back then. It was also stated by Sims that there was no pain in his treatments. How did he know? He tortured one poor slave with 13 surgeries and she almost died from septicemia. He belongs where he is, in a graveyard! Andrea Bush
Springtime hints
Brooklyn: Umbrella users: please do not tuck those long umbrellas with the point at the end under your arm so they practically stab anyone walking behind you. Subway riders: please do not place your wet umbrellas on the seat next to you so a puddle forms and then the seat is unusable for other customers. Maureen Smith
Cuomo’s hot air
Brooklyn: For too long, Gov. Cuomo’s rhetoric on climate change has been bolder than his deeds. This Earth Day, Cuomo should commit to moving New York off fossil fuels. Having banned fracking years ago, he must now stop the pipelines that transport fracked oil and gas and the power plants that burn it. And he must lead a shift to renewable energy by 2030. Anything less shows that Cuomo, like our warming planet, is full of hot air.

Seeya, Shola
Copiague, L.I.: So NYCHA is finally throwing its “captain” overboard! Chairwoman Shola Olatoye is leaving — and not a moment too soon. NYCHA’s operating standards have suffered such a steep decline since my 32-plus years of time with the authority. When I retired in 2011, things were looking up, with strict operations and energy usage management. But today, out-ofcontrol mold, crumbling facades, leaking roofs, boiler breakdowns, have become rampant again. One article states Olatoye is “resigning” for “family.” Oh, come now! The mayor folded under pressure and had no choice but to relieve his wife’s good friend of her duties. Hopefully, a newly appointed chair, along with the new general manager, will finally right the ship. Carl J. C.-Hafner
Cardi B knowin’ history
Bronx: Kudos to Cardi B for telling America a real truth. She is absolutely right in saying that FDR was the one who really made America great again. The man was in a wheelchair from polio and yet brought us out of the Great Depression, established the most successful legislation ever, Social Security, and led us to the successful conclusion of WWII. How easy we forget the Presidents who made a difference in the growth of our nation. It seems that America has lost its moral compass and intellectual vitality. And yes, I voted with the majority of America against President Trump. However, he was right about one thing: his followers would still vote for him even if he shot people on Fifth Ave. Gilbert M. Lane
CYA, CIA
Beechhurst: At the Senate confirmation hearing on President Trump’s new secretary of statedesignate Mike Pompeo, Sen. Cory Booker felt compelled to ask this West Point and Harvard graduate and current CIA director if he believes that “gay sex is a perversion.” This is not your father’s Democratic Party, folks. Indeed, JFK has posthumously become a Republican.

Farewell from a fan
ALEC TABAK Point Pleasant, N.J.: Last week, a true legend of New York TV passed away without any mention in the papers. Chuck McCann died at the age of 83. For those of us who grew up in the ‘60s, you will remember Chuck as having a Sunday morning kids TV show called “Let’s All Have Fun!” on WPIX. It was live each week and Chuck entertained us with his puppets and his many zany characters, and Laurel and Hardy. It was back in the days of Officer Joe Bolton, Captain Jack McCarthy and Bozo the Clown. It was back when life was simple and the world was ahead of us. I found it very sad that the Daily News — to which WPIX was connected back in the day — chose not to mention Chuck’s passing. So, I am. Chuck made us laugh and was a dear man. R.I.P., Chuck. Thank you from all your “kids”! Gene Speroni
