New Prez trans hit may loom

THE TRUMP administration plans to roll back an Obama-era rule barring health-care providers and insurers from discriminating against transgender people, according to a report Saturday.

The White House believes the rule prohibiting discrimination based on race, age, color, national origin, sex or disability for health programs that receive federal funds should be knocked down because a federal judge recently found parts of the rule unlawful, the New York Times reported.

The rule bars insurers from limiting services that help people change genders.

The Trump administration has worked to ban transgender people from the military. The Education Department got rid of guidelines on accommodating transgender students at schools.

Earlier this month, a federal judge blocked the Trump administration’s plan to bar transgender people from the military.

“The ban specifically targets one of the most vulnerable groups in our society,” District Judge Marsha Pechman of the Western District of Washington wrote as she blocked the federal government from imposing the ban, ruling that transgender people are a protected class.
