DO NOT SWEEP ON CC!

Aging vet delivers, Yanks top Halos for 9th in row

ANAHEIM — An enraged CC Sabathia let Angel Hernandez have it.

Upset that a 1-2 pitch to Justin Upton wasn’t called a strike, Sabathia and Hernandez exchanged words following the third inning of the Yankees’ 2-1 victory over the Angels on Sunday night at Yankee Stadium of Anaheim.

The Bombers swept the three-game series and have won nine in a row. “Don’t talk to me. Call f--ing strikes!” Sabathia yelled at Hernandez, the home plate umpire, after getting Upton to ground to third for the final out of the frame, stranding runners at the corners.

Aaron Boone came out to protect his veteran southpaw and talk to Hernandez, who has had plenty of players, managers, coaches and fans upset with him over the years, while Didi Gregorius came over to Sabathia and tried to usher him toward the dugout. “Thought I was throwing strikes,” Sabathia said when asked what happened. Sabathia gave up one run on five hits in a season-high seven innings. He walked one and struck out four and his ERA now stands at 1.71. Chad Green threw a scoreless eighth and Aroldis Chapman recorded his sixth save in the ninth.

Gary Sanchez put the Yankees on the board with a 447-foot, two-run homer to left with one out in the fourth. It was Sanchez’s seventh homer of the year.

“The only person that I’ve ever seen go over the bullpen (in left) is A-Rod,” Sabathia said of the blast.
