Andy eyes Holy Land visit

- Glenn Blain

ALBANY — Facing a heated primary challenge at home, Gov. Cuomo is planning a “security and solidarity” trip to Israel.

Cuomo announced plans to visit Israel during remarks to the Jewish Community Council of New York’s gala dinner Wednesday night, citing the missile attacks launched this week by Iranian forces against Israeli positions in the Golan Heights.

“As long as I am governor of New York, this state stands 100% with Israel and we are proud,” Cuomo said at the dinner.

“That’s why tonight I plan to contact the leadership of Israel, express our solidarity and support, and tell them as soon as convenient, I plan to lead another delegation to Israel. They’re in danger and New York should be there,” Cuomo continued.

Cuomo on Thursday said the trip was likely to take place next week.

He has already made multiple trips to Israel as governor, the last in March 2017, when he visited the Holocaust museum, Yad Vashem.
