Chase ends in crash, gunfire

- Adam Shrier

A PARTY-BOAT brawl turned into a high-speed chase through Brooklyn late Friday, with cops firing at the fleeing car after it crashed, police and witnesses said.

The mayhem began when cops responded to a fistfight at Pier 11 on 58th St. and First Ave. in Bay Ridge around 11 p.m., authorities said.

Two people took off in a black sedan and drove nearly 5 miles before running a red light and crashing into a Mercedes SUV at the corner of Avenue C and E. Eighth St. in Kensington.

“I was stopped on the red and then at the green, I went straight through. Then another car hit,” said the SUV driver, Mohammed Sawar, 46.

A neighborhood man, who wanted to remain anonymous, said two cops jumped out of a squad car with guns drawn and approached two young men trapped in the wreck.

Police fired one shot during the nearly 15-minute standoff.

The driver was treated for an injury to his left pinky finger at NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn. His passenger was uninjured.

Police found a semiautomatic handgun and baseball bat at the scene of the fight, cops said. Investigators believe someone fired at least one gunshot during the melee.
