Olympian grief over saved pup

- Kate Feldman

OLYMPIC SKIER Gus Kenworthy is mourning the loss of the puppy he saved just three months ago.

Kenworthy, who competed at PyeongChang in February, adopted little Beemo after he and boyfriend Matt Wilkas visited a meat farm in South Korea.

Beemo (photo, with Kenworthy), a husky mix, garnered more than 134,000 followers on Instagram. Recently though, Kenworthy wrote, she started losing interest in food. He took her to a veterinarian, where the poor pup went into a panic attack.

“The scan revealed that her lungs were deteriorated and that her heart was too big for her body — a birth defect we had no way of knowing about,” the 26-year-old Olympian wrote on Instagram.

Vets tried to stabilize Beemo, to no avail. Kenworthy said her death was a “blur.”

“I’ve never loved anything or anyone in the way that I loved that dog and she is and will always be deeply missed,” he wrote. “She was so smart and playful. She brought so much happiness to so many people every single day.”
