Gotti’s pen pal loanshark bust
A JOHN GOTTI pen pal is looking at a few years in a federal pen after admitting to loansharking and illegal gambling.
John (Johnny Boy) Ambrosio, 74, pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy Thursday in Long Island Federal Court.
When the feds busted Ambrosio and others last December, they searched places like his Huntington home, which turned up old letters and Christmas cards to Ambrosio from Gotti — the infamous Gambino boss who died behind bars in 2002.
The mob missives didn’t relate to Ambrosio’s loansharking operation, but authorities said the letters demonstrated the acting Gambino capo’s longtime Mafia ties.
According to Long Island federal prosecutors, Ambrosio’s operation extended extortionate loans from 2014 to 2017. His crew also ran an illegal gambling business replete with poker games, electronic gaming machines and sports betting.
He must forfeit $100,000 and could face around three to four years when sentenced.
