Don is right on Dan
Donald Trump is often — OK, usually — dead wrong in the impulsive missives he fires off to his 52 million Twitter followers, but Wednesday night the President got it right as he tapped out an endorsement of Rep. Dan Donovan in the June 26 Republican primary.
During his three years serving Staten Island and a slice of Brooklyn in Washington, Donovan has served well as the only Republican in the city’s delegation, which has been especially important with the House under GOP control.
A former Staten Island district attorney, Donovan is everything that his challenger, Michael Grimm, is not.
Grimm did time in the House as a former congressman; then he did time in the big house as a former convicted federal felon. Donovan built a career enforcing the law.
Donovan is steady, honest and conservative. Grimm is reckless, a liar and a bully who thinks that he can appeal to Trump backers in the party.
Sorry, bud. Trump likes winners and Grimm is a likely loser, who risks turning the seat over to the Democrats in November.
As Trump put it: “Very importantly, @RepDanDonovan will win for the Republicans in November . . . and his opponent will not. Remember Alabama.”
In Alabama, Republicans gave their Senate nomination to Roy Moore, a credibly accused pedophile, who proceeded to lose a reliably Republican seat. Staten Islanders and Brooklynites would be making the same mistake with Grimm. Heed Trump.
Vote for Donovan.
