YANKGAMEDAY

- By MIKE MAZZEO

BALTIMORE — Aaron Boone wanted more length out of his starting pitchers, and he got just that from Sonny Gray. Gray, a disappointment for much of the year, threw six innings of one-run ball, leading the Yankees to a 4-1 victory over the Orioles on Friday night at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

The 28-year-old righty, who came in with a 5.98 ERA, allowed six hits, walked none and struck out six.

Aaron Judge (left) hit his 16th homer in support of Gray, a 438-foot solo shot with one out in the seventh inning.

Meanwhile, 21-year-old rookie Gleyber Torres started June on a high note, notching a pair of hits.

The Bombers improved to 2-3 against the Orioles this season while winning their third in a row overall.

Baltimore came in ranked tied for 27th in the majors in runs.

Chad Green and Dellin Betances both worked in and then out of trouble in the seventh and eighth. Aroldis Chapman recorded his 13th save in the ninth.
