Protected in power
Manhattan: State Sen. Marty Golden has always struck me as a mediocre individual and a repugnant politician. That he has apparently been abusing the state pension system to the tune of at least a million bucks (to date) is an abomination. Let’s see what the feds do about it. My guess: nothing, goose egg, zero, zilch, nada. Doubtless Golden’s powerful cohort, allies and supporters will protect him from the consequences of his own actions, and the broken disability retirement system, which many retired LIRR workers and NYPD personnel have been abusing for years now, will remain a piggy bank for many who don’t deserve it, at the expense of those who do genuinely qualify.
