Women’s group jolts Jumaane
THE NATIONAL Organization for Women’s New York chapter slammed lieutenant governor candidate Jumaane Williams on his gay rights and abortion stances.
The Democratic Brooklyn city councilman, who is challenging Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul, has said he personally opposes same-sex marriage and abortion, but supports the legal right to both.
In an email, NOW New York President Sonia Ossorio said: “With the election of Donald Trump and a Republican-controlled Congress threatening to roll back a woman’s right to choose, and LGBTQ rights, it is vital that our elected officials not only support our issues, but prove they will fight for them — in Jumaane Williams we have neither.”
NOW has endorsed Hochul and Gov. Cuomo for reelection.
Williams said he was “happy to see . . . Cuomo allies sweat and spread false attacks against me.”
