Donald to Staten

You may have noticed that we’re not especially fond of President Trump or his relationship with his home city. For the purposes of this editorial, it’s water under the Verrazano. We really, truly hope Trump comes here to campaign with Rep. Dan Donovan before the June 26 Republican primary.

Trump has done the right thing by endorsing Donovan over ex-congressman and ex-con Michael Grimm, as we did.

His reason is he doesn’t want the seat to fall to the Democrats, which is far more likely if felon Grimm is the GOP’s standardbearer. Our reason is that Grimm is a crook who swallows the GOP hard line, while Donovan is a New York-style Republican.

He’s better on immigration. Sane on guns, while being tough on crime. And overall a decent man.

Whichever way you get there, Donovan’s the right choice.
