ID robber was greedy for Moore

- Peter Sblendorio, Nancy Dillon

Demi Moore was targeted in a credit-card scam in which $169,000 was charged to her American Express account.

Accused scammer David Read reported to American Express in March that Moore's credit card had gone missing — and, pretending to act on her behalf, asked for a replacement, according to a federal criminal complaint obtained by the Daily News.

Once that credit card arrived at a FedEx office in Santa Monica, Read allegedly picked it up and went on a $170,000 spending spree, both online and at Los Angeles area retailers, from March 6 to March 19, according to the legal filing.

The credit card was used to purchase $13,000 worth of items at a Saks Fifth Avenue store on March 8, followed by $16,000 worth of purchases the next day.

In late March, Moore's assistant reported the actress' card had been fraudulently used and surveillance video at the FedEx office and area stores helped authorities track down the alleged thief.

The complaint claims Read admitted to the crime and is in custody at Los Angeles County Jail, TMZ reported.
