Vesey sticking with Blueshirts

- Justin Tasch

The Rangers took care of business with one of their arbitrationeligible restricted free agents on Tuesday, agreeing to terms with winger Jimmy Vesey on a twoyear contract with a $2.275 million annual cap hit.

Vesey, 25, had 28 points (17 goals, 11 assists) in 79 games last season. As a rookie in 2016-17, he had 16 goals and 11 assists after signing with the Blueshirts as a four-year college free agent. He opted not to sign with Nashville, the team which drafted him, or Buffalo, the team which acquired his rights before he reached free agency.

The deal cancels the scheduled July 30 arbitration hearing for Vesey. Three other restricted free agents still have scheduled hearings: Brady Skjei on July 31, Kevin Hayes on Aug. 2 and Ryan Spooner on Aug. 4.
