The father of two survivors of the Parkland, Fla., high school mass shooting was gunned down during a robbery of the convenience store he owns, authorities said.

The Broward County Sheriff's Office said 61-year-old Ayub Ali was killed Tuesday during an armed heist.

Two of his four children attend Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where 17 people were killed during a shooting rampage Feb. 14, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported. According to the news outlet, surveillance video from Aunt Molly's Food Store in North Lauderdale, Fla., released Thursday, showed owner Ali and the suspect having an exchange at the cash register, and Ali then being led into a back office.

“The thief returned shortly after and shot Ali,” Joy Oglesby, a spokeswoman for the sheriff 's office, told the Sun Sentinel.

Ali was pronounced dead at Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale.

“Detectives hope someone can identify the suspect who killed Ayub Ali,” Oglesby said. “He took money from the cash register and left.”

The gunman wore a skull cap with “Miami” stitched on the front and a pom pom on top, the video showed.

Family spokesman Mirza Mustaque remembered the native of Bangladesh as a “very generous person and nice person,” the Miami Herald reported.

“He is a very religious person and very friendly. It is very sad,” he said, adding: “These things happen but this is so unfortunate.”
