Kaep blackballed again (by mistake)

- BY PETER SBLENDORIO

Colin Kaepernick doesn't appear in the latest edition of the Madden video game franchise — as a player or in a song lyric.

EA Sports' Madden 19 features a version of the YG song “Big Bank” on its soundtrack that edits out a reference to the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback.

The unedited version of the song includes a line from Big Sean that goes, “You boys all cap, I'm more Colin Kaepernick.” A video of the unreleased game that circulated social media, however, shows Kaepernick's name was removed from the song.

Thursday night, EA Sports explained their “mistake” in a statement.

“We made an unfortunate mistake with our Madden soundtrack. Members of our team misunderstood the fact that while we don't have rights to include Colin Kaepernick in the game, this doesn't affect soundtracks,” EA Sports said. “We messed up, and the edit should never have happened. We will make it right on August 6 that will include the reference again. We meant no disrespect, and we apologize to Colin, to YG and Big Sean, to the NFL, to all of their fans and our players for this mistake.”

Kaepernick started the national anthem kneeling protests that have swept the NFL the past two seasons as a way of demonstrating against racial injustice and police brutality in America. The 30-yearold went unsigned all of last season and remains without an NFL job.

Big Sean had said neither he nor anyone on his team approved EA Sports' edits to his song.
