Farewell to the heart & soul of America
RITES FOR BELOVED POL McCAIN AND MUSIC LEGEND FRANKLIN
Meghan McCain looked daggers at Vice President Pence as he spoke at her father's memorial ceremony Friday.
Sen. John McCain is lying in state in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda, where only 30 Americans have had the same honor.
Meghan McCain sat next to her 106-year-old grandmother, Roberta McCain — Sen. John McCain's mother — as Pence explained that the President had asked him to attend, drawing glares from the co-host of ABC's “The View.”
“It is deeply humbling to stand before you today at the United States Capitol to commemorate the life and service of an American patriot, Sen. John McCain,” Pence said.
“The President asked me to be here on behalf of a grateful nation to pay a debt of honor and respect to a man who served our country throughout his life in uniform and in public office and it's my great honor to be here,” he said.
Meghan McCain's nonverbal language drew attention from the Twittersphere.
“I feel like Meghan McCain is trying to set Pence on fire with her mind,” said Kaore Bonell.
“Meghan McCain's face says it all,” said user Stuguru.
Meghan McCain has rebuked Trump, who has a long history of mocking her father — from claiming McCain was not a war hero “because he was captured” to criticizing McCain's voting down a GOP Obamacare repeal effort.
“[Trump's] comments are never going to be OK with me, especially at this moment in my life. I'm never going to forgive it,” she said during a June episode of “The View.” “I'm never going to move on from it.”
A formal funeral service will be held Saturday at Washington National Cathedral, where former presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush will speak.
The Senator died last Saturday, days before his 82nd birthday.
