No place like home for stolen ‘Oz’ slippers

-

It’s a dream come true.

The FBI has found a pair of red slippers worn by Judy Garland in “The Wizard of Oz” 13 years after they were swiped from a Grand Rapids, Minn., museum.

Authorities managed to retrieve the iconic sequined shoes following a nearly year-long undercover operation that began after a man reached out to the company insuring the movie prop last summer and claimed to have information, the FBI said Tuesday.

The FBI got involved after local police determined those connected to the crime were attempting to extort the owners of the shoes, according to a press release put out by the bureau.

Multiple suspects in the ruby slipper scam have been identified, officials said.

“We are still working to ensure that we have iden- tified all parties involved in both the initial theft and the more recent extortion attempt for their return,” Special Agent Christopher Dudley said in a press release. “This is very much an active investigation.”
