Vid of crook who hit Bx. ATM 2 times

- BY ESHA RAY

A bold bandit who tried to swipe hundreds of dollars from a woman at a Bronx ATM — only to be thwarted by the woman’s neighbor — stole $200 in cash from an elderly man at the same bank three days before, cops said.

Police released surveillance video Sunday of the crook putting his card into the Chase ATM on Castle Hill Ave. near Lafayette Ave. on Sep. 3 about 12:45 p.m.

He stays there as a 75-yearold man approaches the ATM next to him, the video shows.

After clicking a few buttons, the robber pulls out his card. He then turns and grabs the elderly man’s cash out of the slot before running away, the video shows.

Three days later, the crook tried to snatch $500 from 46year-old Melana Martinez at the same ATM.

This time, Martinez’s neighbor, Jose Rodriguez, happened to be at the same bank and tackled the thief to the ground before he could make off with her money.

“I grabbed him from the back and we both fell to the ground. He was just grumbling,” Rodriguez, 26, told the Daily News. “He threw the money down then took off.”

The serial crook (photo) is still on the loose. Police are hoping the new footage will help the public recognize him.

He was wearing a gray Seawolves Nation T-shirt, red shorts and a red baseball cap in the Sep. 3 incident.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 577-TIPS.
