Grandpa’s Bus loses Qns. routes
City Education Department officials booted controversial yellow school bus contractor from routes in Queens on Monday as more parents blamed the outfit for noshows and late buses.
Education Department officials said Jamaica-based Grandpa’s Bus Co. was responsible for three buses on Monday — and one didn’t show at all.
Those routes were given to other companies, Education Department spokeswoman Miranda Barbot said.
“We reassigned four Grandpa’s Bus Co. routes to another company today, and will continue to fix issues families have been facing,” Barbot said.
A Grandpa’s spokesman didn’t respond to a request for comment.
As of Friday, the sixth day of school, the city’s school bus complaint hotline had received 82,225 calls, compared to 68,260 calls last year.
