Allman Bros. guitarist set for surgery
Dickey Betts, a founder of the Allman Brothers Band, is scheduled for brain surgery after a fall in Florida.
The 74-year-old guitarist was at home in Little Sarasota Bay when he slipped and cracked his head Monday evening, according to a statement on his personal website.
Betts was taken to the hospital and has been sedated since then, in “critical but stable condition.”
He’ll undergo brain surgery Friday to relieve some of the swelling.
‘The family appreciates all of your thoughts and prayers during this very trying time,” his wife, Donna, said in a statement. “Dickey is a notorious fighter and he is displaying that now!”
Last month, Betts canceled several tour dates after suffering a minor stroke.
