Schools bigwig reassigned after bus crisis

Another top school official has taken a hit in the city’s yellow school bus implosion.

Former CEO of school operations Elizabeth Rose, who oversaw school facilities, food, transportation and sports, has been reassigned to the position of senior school transportation adviser, where she’ll help the city rebuild its ailing $1.2 billion yellow bus system.

In her previous role, Rose (photo) supervised school support services CEO Eric Goldstein, the yellow bus boss who was fired outright on Friday by schools chancellor Richard Carranza amid a shakeup of the city’s massive student transportation system.

On Friday, Carranza delivered a speech to the city’s embattled Office of Pupil Transportation, where he vowed to overhaul the city’s contracts with the entrenched bus companies that many blame for delays and no-shows that left throngs of students stranded or late for class and generated nearly 100,000 phone calls to the city’s yellow bus complaint line in the first two weeks of school.

Education Department spokesman Will Mantell said Rose would retain her salary of $197,425.

“Elizabeth Rose has taken a new role as Senior Transportation Contracts Advisor, bringing her expertise in the area to advise on the City’s school bus contracts and vendor relationships,” Mantell said.

Rose didn’t respond to a request tor comment.
