BORDERLINE EVIL

‘ Sex’ teacher quit in NY, hired in NJ

- By SUSAN EDELMAN

One school’s trash . . . A Brooklyn teacher who quit amid claims he repeatedly bedded a student easily landed another gig in New Jersey — where school officials were clueless about his past until they read Sunday’s Post ( inset).

Robert Cain, 38, went to work at Bergen Arts and Science Charter HS in Hackensack in September 2014 — just weeks after his resignation from James Madison HS, which staved off disciplinary charges for the monthslong fling. Nihat Guvercin, CEO of North Jersey Arts and Science Charter Schools, sent an email to parents on Monday assuring them Cain’s contract was “not renewed.”

He said Cain, who was never charged with a crime in the Brooklyn case, passed a New Jersey State Police background check. Guvercin also admitted that he learned about the sex accusations from The Post.

“We had no idea of these allegations when Mr. Cain was hired by NJASCS, or at any time since then until we read the recent press reports,” he wrote.

Guvercin said Cain was dumped “for reasons unrelated to the recent reports,” but he declined to elaborate further.

A furious Bergen Arts and Science parent wondered how the school never found out about the damning case against Cain.

“I am livid that our school hired him. Howcan he [ have sex with a student] in New York and get hired in New Jersey in the same year?” the parent fumed.

“I understand the State Police did a background check, but did anyone in our central office call the super of his prior school system? At that point, even though he wasn’t [ criminally] charged, was there a way to raise a flag?” she asked.

Cain was accused of seducing a girl in his Participation in Government class in 2013.

He allegedly engaged in daily sex with the teen at the school before taking her to a Comfort Inn in Brooklyn, where he photographed their session, according to a report from Special Commissioner of Investigation for city schools Richard Condon.

Because he quit, the DOE did not pursue disciplinary charges.

Cain, of Staten Island, could not be reached for comment, but he previously has denied the allegations.

The angry Bergen mom was stunned to learn of his past.

“We’re dealing with children! He got another year with teenage girls in a high school,” she said.

Her daughter added, “He gave off vibes that weren’t normal.”
