Porzingis’ summer status unknown

- — Marc Berman

Latvian rookie Kristaps Porzingis still hasn’t decided if he will play for the Knicks summer league, according to multiple sources. The 7foot3 Porzingis, coming off a rugged Spanish League season with Sevilla, had been nursing hip tightness entering the NBA draft — an injury that cut short his predraft workout with the Knicks.

Porzingis said before the draft the injury was “nothing serious,’’ but after he was selected No. 4 bythe Knicks, his brother went on radio to say his summerleague status was an unknown. The Knicks said a day later they still expected him to play, but with the team debuting Saturday in Las Vegas, it is still being decided. The first official practice is Thursday in Vegas.

Latvia Basketball announced Monday Porzingis would not play for its national team this month in its Olympic qualifying event because hewanted to spend the summer working out with Knicks coaches.
