SOCCER: Messi scores milestone

Lionel Messi scored his 500th career goal for Barcelona to give his club a dramatic 3-2 win over 10-man Real Madrid in the last minute of the “clasico” on Sunday in Madrid, leaving the two clubs tied in the race for the Spanish league title.

Messi netted his milestone goal — his second of the night — with a low left-footed shot from inside the box two minutes into stoppage time.

In London, Alexis Sanchez ensured Arsenal’s season will end with an FA Cup final after securing a 2-1 victory over Manchester City in extra time at Wembley Stadium. He struck in the 101st minute to secure an all-London May 27 final versus Chelsea.

In Burnley, England, Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney each scored first-half goals in Manchester United’s 2-0 win in the Premier League, lifting the team to within a point of the Champions League qualificat­ion positions. NASCAR postponed the Monster Energy Cup race at Bristol Motor Speedway because of heavy rain. The race was pushed until Monday at 1 p.m. in Bristol, Tenn.
