Culture critic: Jews Are Top Targets in Canada

New York Post - - POST OPINION - — Compiled by Adam Brodsky & Brendan Clarey

Jews were the target of 38 percent of Canada’s religious hate crimes in 2015, Tablet’s Yair Rosenberg notes, citing a government study. Muslims are next most targeted. “Hate crimes targeting the Jewish population accounted for 13 percent of all hate crimes,” the study found, “followed closely by hate crimes targeting the Muslim population (12 percent).” As a result, Rosenberg argues, anti-Semitism is closer to home than many think. The study serves as “a reminder,” he says, “that while anti-Semitism is thankfully far rarer in North America than places like Europe and the Middle East, it is far from dormant.” And despite “comprising only tiny percentages of their local population, Jews are consistently a top target for hate crimes.”
