Aspen Ideas crash mystery

-

ATTENDEES at the Aspen Ideas Festival in Colorado — where speakers this year range from General Electric CEO Jeff Immelt to artist Jeff Koons and Sen. Cory Booker — woke up to a mystery Monday when an abandoned car was left overnight floating in a pond on the conference campus. An insider told us VIPs “initially thought it was an art display” or promotion by one of this year’s sponsors, Toyota. But Aspen assistant police chief Bill Linn commented in a local report, “It’s looking like someone drove up to [a] dead end . . . and tried to back up and turn around. Unfortunately, where the person ended up backing up and turning around looked a lot more like water.” Linn told us he could not comment further on the ongoing investigation. At the fest, AOL co-founder Steve Case posted, “Police trying to figure out what happened during night. #AspenIdeas kicks off with intrigue.” Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol added that “in the midst of sober panel discussions, it’s a wild & crazy scene!” Aspen Public Radio reported the car “belongs to a local.”
