Seattle mayor resigns

New York Post - - NEWS -

The mayor of Seattle resigned Tuesday amid a slew of child-sex-abuse allegations — including one involving his own cousin on Long Island. Mayor Ed Murray (inset) stepped down hours after the cousin, Joseph Dyer, joined a growing number of men who said the 62-year-old politician sexually abused them as children.

“While the allegations against me are not true, it is important that my personal issues do not affect the ability of our city government to conduct the public’s business,” Murray said in a statement.

Dyer’s allegations against Murray were first reported in The Seattle Times and made Dyer the fifth man to come forward since April to claim sexual abuse.

Dyer, now 54, said he was 13 when Murray repeatedly abused him at Dyer’s mother’s home in Medford in Suffolk County. Murray had been staying with the family.
