‘Narcos’ slay in Mexico
The bullet-riddled body of a locations scout for the hit Netflix show “Narcos’’ has been found in one of Mexico’s most drug ganginfested areas, it was reported Saturday.
Carlos Munoz Portal, who worked for a production company in Mexico City called “Redrum” — murder spelled backward — died in a remote area near San Barto Actopan, Variety said.
Season four of Narcos will focus on Mexico’s Jurez cartel. Season three had dealt with a Colombia cartel.
“We are aware of the passing of Carlos Muñoz Portal, a well-respected location scout, and send our condolences to his family,’’ Netflix said. “The facts surrounding his death are still unknown as authorities continue to investigate.’’
Variety said the murder raises doubt about whether the show would continue to shoot in Mexico or move back to Colombia.
One of Portal’s friends told the paper El Pais that his pal had a camera with him, speculating, “Maybe they thought he was collecting information and they started tracking him in a car,” Fox News reported.
