Sessions eyes Hill & O probe
Attorney General Jeff Sessions is considering the appointment of a special counsel to investigate Republican allegations of misdeeds by Hillary Clinton and others in the Obama administration.
Sessions wants prosecutors to look into the GOP concerns and report directly to him and his top deputy, Rod Rosenstein, according to a letter sent by Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd on Monday to the House Judiciary Committee.
Republicans on Capitol Hill want to know if Clinton was properly investigated for using a private e-mail server while she was secretary of state or if the Clinton Foundation granted any special projects to big donors.
The GOP is also seeking more information about Clinton’s role in the sale to Russia of a Canadian mining company that has significant uranium interests in the United States.
Earlier this year, Sessions recused himself from the probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election. Rosenstein then tapped Robert Mueller to investigate the matter.
